This center addresses the problem of low vision,
a term used to describe impaired vision problems that cannot be corrected with surgery, medical treatment, standard glasses or contact lenses.

Enhanced Hearing Devices

Amplified Phones - For Individuals With Hearing Impairments

  • Several phone choices available with amplified sound
  • Only location in Cedar Rapids where phones can be tested to "see" and "hear" what works best

Amplified Phone Features:

  • Loud ringers
  • Large buttons
  • Memory buttons for phone numbers
  • Loud caller ID
  • Loud answering machine
  • Loud cordless phones
  • Amplified phones can be used with or without hearing aids

Access Iowa Help with Amplified Phones

  • If residing in Iowa with an income of $46,000 or below for one person; or $54,000 or below for household of two; and you have phone service, then come in and fill out brief application form at the Vision Enhancement Center.
  • Individuals who qualify receive the voucher in about one week. The voucher covers about 95% of the cost of an amplified phone.
